Intro 1.0

I leave for Germany in less than three weeks.

For the past few months, I've been collecting all the things I need to bring with me to Germany, which include an assortment of wool items, medications, and paper work. My passport arrived sooner than expected. I was surprised it took only a little over two weeks to get it processed and mailed out to me. Thanks, U.S. Department of State.

I expected to begin my blog at a later date, but figured this was a good time to get it started. One thing that prompted me to post was a few days ago I received notification that I was awarded the Gilman Scholarship. Over 2,700 applicants applied and a little over 900 awards were given. This blog is actually a part of the Follow-On Project I am doing.

You can browse the Spring 2012 Recipients page via this link http://www.iie.org/en/Programs/Gilman-Scholarship-Program. I'm one of only a handful of students selected who will study in Germany. Applicants are encouraged to study abroad outside of Western Europe, but my interests and a few other criteria made Germany the place where I wanted to study. I'll get into those reasons at a later date.

I know this was a brief introduction. You really don't know much about me (yet). I promise, I am a real college student and I am really going to Germany in January for about 5 months.

So many dimensions!
I leave you with a photo and video to entice you to come back...please be enticed.

This guy can't resist sleeping on the train I was on in Maryland...
